The Year of the Macs
The release of The Mighty Macs movie is all the talk around campus. It was an awesome time in Immaculata history. The image above will link you to some of the history as well as information about an upcoming Black Tie Gala!
These days we are not only remembering the success of the ’72, ’73, ’74 teams, but our current women’s basketball team is preparing for the CSAC (Colonial State Athletic Conference) championship game against Neumann University this Saturday, 2/26/11.

Student Profile: Music Therapy
In my opinion, Immaculata University genuinely has one of the best Music Therapy programs on the East Coast. The courses are challenging, but they definitely leave you prepared to work in the field and wanting to learn more about music therapy.
During my time here, I have worked with children and adults. I have had the opportunity to travel throughout the region to participate in conferences with professors and other music therapy students. This has allowed me to become completely immersed in the field of music therapy, as well as meet other students and professionals within the field.
Once I graduate from Immaculata, I hope to work in the medical or field of music therapy with children. Immaculata has given me many opportunities. It has also given me the tools I need to graduate and become a truly successful music therapist.

Student Profile: Fashion Merchandising
Fashion has always been a part of my life. Starting when I was just a little kid, I used to insist that my parents let me dress myself. So, needless to say, when my high school guidance counselor asked me what my major in college was going to be I immediately responded “Fashion Merchandising!”
Immaculata is the right school for me because of its small atmosphere. I get to work intensively with my teachers and I feel that I am an actual person rather than a number at a big university.
The fashion department is undergoing some new and exciting changes, with guest speakers, and new courses being offered. I am excited to see what is going to happen next!
That little kid who used to dress himself in crazy outfits, has now become a business professional ready to conquer the fashion industry thanks to IU.

Student Profile: Biology
Hi! I’m Allison, a junior Biology and Chemistry Major here at IU. Although I am from South Jersey, I do consider IU my home away from home. In my pursuit of a career as a medical doctor, IU has opened my eyes to multiple possibilities.
My research on Scoliosis began freshman year in genetics class and I am now working on it with a doctor at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
This past summer was fantastic! I shadowed that doctor, who is a neurosurgeon, in the operating room and was totally blown away by the experience. I look forward to the road ahead of me, knowing that Immaculata has fortified me for the journey.

Women’s Soccer Falls In CSAC Final In Shootout

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.
– Immaculata University’s women’s soccer team saw its magical season come to an end on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon, falling to Centenary College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament championship game in a penalty kick shootout.Centenary opened the game scoring in the fifth minute of the first half, and Immaculata tallied its marker during the first five minutes of the second half. Regulation and two overtime periods was not enough to break the 1-1 tie, and both squads headed to penalty kicks for the second time in as many games.
Centenary went first in the shootout and Immaculata’s Jessica Gaburo made a diving one-handed save on the first shot from Jen Dexter. The Mighty Macs (8-10-3) followed with Kim Steinke depositing the ball in the right-center for the early 1-0 edge.
Caitlin Veverka tied the scored at 1-1 when she scored in the left corner, but Robin Valerio gave Immaculata back the advantage as she buried the ball in the upper left corner. Centenary again evened the score at 2-all on Jazmine Farrell’s goal.
Centenary took its first lead of the shootout as Brittamy Overland started out the fourth set netting a goal. However, Stefanie Karmondy responded for the Mighty Macs with a shot to the upper left corner, and things were tied at 3-3 heading into the final set of shooters in the opening round.
Centenary’s Courtney Flanagan pushed her shot into the lower left pocket, and Cyclones’ goalkeeper Ashley Denti came up with the save on Immaculata’s kick to seal the 4-3 shootout win.
After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Valerio put a pass up through the middle for a waiting Bridget Cunningham, who made a move to her right around a Centenary defender and buried the ball into the left corner for the equalizing goal in the 50th minute.
Farrell scored Centenary’s goal in the fifth minute of the match. Denti finished the game with five saves, and also had two in the shootout.
Gaburo made nine saves for the Mighty Macs, who were outshot by the Cyclones 28-12.
It’s the first CSAC women’s soccer title for Centenary (13-7-2), and the Lady Cyclones will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Centenary will find out its first round opponent when the field is announced on Monday.

Well, it is very near the end..only a few days left!! Many people are beginning to leave campus, and most people are looking forward to the end of the semester and going home! But, Immaculata has not left us yet! For instance, this week, we have had a lot of events to relax us before finals! For instance, last Wednesday, a hypnotist came to school! I went up on stage, and while i was not completely hypnotized, I still had a great time!! Also, I am going on a retreat this weekend, very similar to one that I went on at the beginning of the weekend!! Unfortunately, I’m missing a party in the Admissions office which should be a blast!! Oh well, but I am looking forward to the summer.
This summer I am planning on going down to Virginia, working in Admissions and at Chick-fil-a(like I do during breaks), and above all, going to a BILLY JOEL concert!! I look forward to it! Well, this is probably my last blog of the year, so if I don’t come back and blog in the fall (which I hope I do), I wish you all the best luck in your college searches and I hope to see you all at Immaculata University soon!!
We’re near the end!

So, I am talking to you in midst of the busyness that April has become, and the end is close to being near! However, we had some great events last weekend that provided IU with a nice break! One, Spring Gala, the main spring dance, was a success! I had a great time, and I know the other students did too! The next day, our BIG event, Spring Fling, happened on back campus. They had a bunch of inflatables things, sno cones, a DJ, and human foosball, which was a lot of fun! I wish any of you could have been here to see it, because it was an absolute blast!!
I am almost done all my work. All that’s left is two papers, one that i can revise, exam essays, and a few finals and then I am done!!! Well, until next week, hopefully I will be a little less busy!
